There are lots of things to do in Copenhagen, whether you want to go shopping for Danish Design, want to visit cultural heritage sites, or just want to "hang out" in the hip cafees in the city. On this page, we provide you with links to some official guides, our very own Copenhagen ABC and specials picks from the local conference committee!

Picks of the local committee

The conference chairs suggests
If you want to get a feel for the more typical Denmark outside of Copenhagen, I suggest you spend half a day in the city of Roskilde south of Copenhagen. It is only 25 minutes by train from the Central Station of Copenhagen.

  • In the center of Roskilde and a short walk from the station, you will find the impressive Cathedral of Roskilde where Danish kings and queens are buried and where you can experience original 15th century frescoes. The Cathedral also hosts a small museum.
  • Almost right next to the cathedral you will find the Museum of Contemporary Art, which in October 2008 will be showing the exhibition: TOTAL_ACTION: Art in the New Media Landscape.
  • If you travel a little outside the town to the fjord of Roskilde you can visit the famous Viking Ship museum with original viking ships (1000 years old) and shop for some very nice viking jewelry (we often use it as gifts for visiting colleagues!). The walking distance to the viking ship museum is approximately 20 minutes from the railway station, or you can go there by busses 216 and 607.

Don't miss out on a visit to the Danish museum Louisiana,
If you want to try a local restaurant, I recommend Restaurant Vita i St. Kongensgade (quality traditional Danish cuisine).

Local committee member Charlie Breindahl suggests
You absolute must pay a visit to the Glypoteket museum. They have so many things to see, like the Eguyptian collection with mumies, the Greek statues, the fantasic statues by Rodin. And then don't forget the French Impressionist collection, including Gaugain's sad winter pictures from his time in Denmark, before he went ballistic in Tahiti and the small erotic ballerina sculptures by Degas. And the wintergardens (which also has a very nice cafe). A must see!

Local committee member Stine Gotved suggests

  • You have to visit Brumleby - the very first living area made especially for the working class in Denmark (Europe even??), built around 1856, Im happy to help out with a tour (Stine lives there herself).
  • The new living quarters for the Elephants in the Cph Zoo, as seen from the Frederiksberg Gardens.
  • Jens Olsen's Astronomical Clock on the very top of the City Hall
  • The House of Communication (Post & Tele museum) in Købmagergade.
  • The pub "Musen & Elefanten" in Vestergade (if not too big a crowd)
