Getting around Copenhagen in general
Getting around Copenhagen is easy - most sights in inner city is within walking distance from the suggested conference hotels. Public transport is quite good, so you should be able to get around to most places, either by metro, bus or the Copenhagen area train system, the "S-trains" (DK: S-tog). A ride costs DKK 12,5 if you use a 10 trip card (see "Buying Tickets" below for further information).
Getting from the airport to your hotel or the conference venue
Once you
arrived at Copenhagen airport, there are several ways you can get to your hotel or the conference venue:
Metro: if you are going to Hotel Opera or Maritime, or any other hotel, close to one of the metro stops, it is by far the quickest and cheapest option to take the metro, it takes you to city center in around 14 minutes and departs every 5 minutes. Just follow the signs in the arrival hall towards the metro station, it's about a 5-7 min walk from the bagage pick-up exit. If you're going to Hotel Opera og Maritime, get off at the "Kongens Nytorv" stop, it's a 5-10 min walk to the hotels from there.
See map of hotels and metro
Train: if you are going to CabInn city or the City Center Hostel, the easiest option is to take the train to the Central Station ("Hovedbanegården") and then walk or get a cab (a short and cheapish ride) from there. The train station is located at the end of the arrival terminal, below ground, there are clear signage for it. The train trip to the Central Station takes about 15 min.
Taxi: There are plenty of taxis on the taxi stand right outside the arrivals terminal. Walk straight ahead around 50 meter, once you have exited customs/backage pick-up hall, and take the first exit you see on your right hand side. It cost about d.kr. 175-250 to get to the city center, depending on the time of day.
Buying tickets in the airport to get you to the city & around the city (train/metro)
You can get tickets and card at the DSB ticket sales, which is big kiosk inside the arrival terminal, straight ahead from where you exit customs & bagage pick-up hall.
If you are planning on spending some days in Cph and want to see some tourist sights too, it might be a good idea to buy a 72 hour Copenhagen Card, which gives you free access to all public transport and 60 tourist attractions. See more info here. Price: DKK 429.
Otherwise: Right on the way to the train station or the metro , don't forget to stop and buy a 10-trip card for 2 zones, in Danish "blåt klippekort" [bloarht klippaekoart]. Price: DKK 125. One stamp in a ticket machine on this card will give you unlimited travel in inner city of Cph in both metro, bus and busses for 1 hour. Get a stamp on the card in the yellow ticket machines at the metro, or the red ticket machines on the train stations. They are conveniently located on the departure platform, close to stairs and entrances, and on the entrance stairs of busses.
If you're going directly from the airport to the conference venue, take the Metro (see above) to the DR-byen metro stop (direction "Vanløse). See further directions on how to get from DR-byen to ITU below.
Getting from your hotel to the conference venue
From Hotel Opera and Hotel Maritime, the easiest thing is to take the metro from "Kongens Nytorv" to the "DR-Byen" metrostop (get on the Metro headed for "Vestamager"). It's a 6 min ride or so, and from DR-Byen is about a 7 min walk to the IT Unversity (ITU).
Getting from the DR-byen metro stop to ITU:
Once you get off the metro, just head for the big blue cube building on your left (DR's soon-to-be-revealed concert hall). There will be signage all the way and a volunteer to point you in the right direction Thursday morning. Basically you walk a little on an asphalt path, and then you get to a big building, and then you just have to follow the water canal past this building (the DR-building), cross an asfalt road which runs over the canal, and then the next building on the right hand side you see is ITU (glass, concrete and steel). (Fyi, DR is an abbreviation of "Denmarks Radio", the Danish equivalent of BBC, it's their headquarters you're passing!).
From CabInn City, take bus 5A from Polititorvet (3 min walk from the hotel), direction "Kastrup/Lufthavn Udenrigs". It's a 8 min ride. Get off at the Amager Boulevard/Amager Fælledvej junction (ask the driver) and walk to the IT-University from there: just walk down Amager Fælledvej, and take a right at the first road on your right hand (Rued Langgaardsvej). ITU is the first building on your left, no. 7. This walk takes about 10 min.
From the City Center Hostel, it's about a 20 min. walk (see map with the route). Otherwise, go to Rysensteensgade close by, take bus 33, direction "Søvang", get off at the "Hørgården" stop 10 min. later and walk up Amagerfælledvej, the road where you get off. Turn down the second road on your left hand side (Rued Langgardsvej). ITU is the first building on your left, no. 7. It's a 5 min. walk.
Taxi/Cabs
You can also take a taxi from the hotel. A taxi from your hotels to ITU will cost around 135-50 DKK depending on the time of day. A taxi can take 4 people max.
The biggest taxi company in Copenhagen is “4x35” – they cover all of Copenhagen. Phone: +45 3535 3535. Another possibility is Codan Taxis: +45 7025 2525 or Amager-Øbro taxi: +45 3251 5151.
